The Drum: The Fight for Talent

Since the pandemic, the marketing industry has faced a fierce battle for talent. With stagnant salaries and outdated perks, agencies are rethinking how to attract the best people. In The Drum’s latest Agency Advice column, our MD Scott Micklethwaite shares his take on the issue.

"The fight for top talent is still on. More people are returning to full-time roles after the post-Covid freelance surge, but competition remains fierce. Attracting the best means being the best – in work, culture and vision. A strong shop window – from brand to marketing – isn’t just for clients. It sells to talent, too. Competitive pay is a given, but it’s an investment that fuels brilliant work, retains clients and wins new business. Beyond salary, culture and togetherness are key. This year, we’ve invested in a new office space to create an environment where people want to be, but the pull needs to go beyond four walls. Whether in person or hybrid, it’s essential to foster a workplace where talent thrives, achievements are celebrated and rewarded and building strong community is essential."
